Changing diapers is going to become an intimate part of your time together and is sighted as one of the areas which build your relationship bond.
It’s a time where the diaper wearer gets a feeling of being deeply love and cared for, while you can enjoy a feeling of being needed and appreciated.
The non-sexual intimacy of wiping your baby, applying cream, powdering and placing them into a new fresh diaper is hard to match in any other part of daily life.
At home you should have a permanent changing area in a convenient location, if possible this should always be visible when you don’t have guests over. This will reinforce that DD is now part of their life.
The process for changing a diaper at home should be as follows:
1. After checking their diaper and deciding a change is required guide them to the changing area.
2. Help them take off any bulky clothing but onesies and tshirts can stay on
3. Lay them down on the changing mat, undoing the poppers on their onesie and moving it out of the way so you can now see their whole exposed diaper
4. Comment on the state of their diaper and reinforce that you’re glad you have them in diapers.
5. Leave them lying their while you prepare their next diaper trying to pick a suitable thickness and style depending on what their activities will be afterwards.
6. Unfold the new diaper, stretch out the wings and body, before folding it lengthways to create a hotdog bun shape. Next fluff it up by gently shaking the diaper one section at a time. Google diaper fluffing technique for more details.
7. With the diaper prepared, untape their used diaper and fold the front down.
8. If the diaper is just wet use a few wipes to throughly clean their genital area and down to their groin. Now lift up their legs or get them to help you by lifting their legs to their tummy, exposing their bum. Again use a few wipes to clean them before pulling out the used diaper and sliding the fresh one below them.
9. If the diaper is messy follow the same process but more wipes are going to be required. You can also use the front of the diaper to quickly scrape off the majority of the mess. If it’s very soft it can be a good idea to make then take a shower after you’ve removed the majority.
10. With the fresh diaper now under them take a second to fold up the used diaper and put it in a sealed diaper bag, this will help reduce any smell.
11. Reposition the new diaper so it under their bum correctly before then applying anti rash creme to their lower area.
12. Apply a liberal amount of baby power onto them and the diaper, before lifting it up into place.
13. Once your happy with the positioning tape them up starting at the bottom left, then bottom right before doing the top tapes. The tapes should ensure a snug fit where your still able to run a finger around the leg guards.
14. If you’re worried about leaks or a future messy diaper quickly slide on a pair of plastic pants.
15. Finally finish off by pulling down their onesie or t-shirt and buttoning them back up if required.
Ending the change help your partner up and share a hug. They should thank you for changing them and you them, for being a good baby.
